Dr. Elizabeth Fazio Schaefer received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Schaefer then completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, OH followed by a year of research in The Gilger Lab at North Carolina State University. She then began a three-year ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri where she received specialty training in the medical and surgical management of canine, feline, equine, and avian eye disease. Her clinical interests include corneal wound healing and surgery. She enjoys her career because it “uses both medicine and surgery to restore vision, improves the patient’s quality of life, and enhances the bond between human and animal.” Outside of work, Dr. Schaefer enjoys spending time with her husband, Kevin, and dog, Kyrie. She loves hiking, playing sand volleyball, and cheering on Cleveland sports teams.
