Overview

Upstate Vet is happy to provide a variety of canine and feline dental services. Just like in humans, dental health is important to your pet’s overall wellness. If left uncared for, dental problems can lead to more serious illness, including liver, heart, and kidney disease. Many of the same dental issues seen in humans are also found in our pets, including tartar, carious lesions (cavities), broken teeth, root exposure, and many more.

By 3 years of age, 85% of all dogs and cats have periodontal disease. Animals have a higher pain tolerance than humans have when it comes to oral issues. Dogs and cats are good at hiding their oral pain in front of their owners and still eat despite severe dental problems. It is important that a thorough oral exam is part of your pet’s routine family veterinary visit, and if you are noticing any subtle signs of oral discomfort, such as halitosis, drooling, face rubbing, or dropping food, make sure you mention this at the time of your pet’s regular veterinary exam.

Our state-of-the-art dentistry suite houses a variety of dental equipment and technology to provide your pet with the very best in dental care and treatment. The suite is also equipped with an advanced dental x-ray machine that gives us the ability to view the teeth below the gum line, including the roots and jaw bone. Examples of procedures our dental specialists can perform include cleanings, vital pulp therapy, root canals, crowns, oral surgery, and jaw fracture repairs.

Our dental care is provided by our board-certified veterinary dentist Dr. Heather Duncan and by Dr. Beth Romig (practice limited to veterinary dentistry/oral surgery), and a team of four veterinary technicians. We are committed to providing you and your pet with personal and compassionate specialty dental care, and we pride ourselves in being your vet’s partner in the overall health of your pet.
